Memphis Get Down

Not one of my pics.

The date was Oct 24 1998. Memphis, TN..DJ Shadow, Blackalicious, and Latyrx. Myself, my sister, and my best friend rockin’ out to the tunes. During DJ Shadows set (which sucked..he played Nore’s Superthug for like 10 minutes straight) Gift of Gab walks up to us and asks my sister where he can score some mushrooms. She had no clue who he was, and simply said “Nope, sorry.” I was in shock. It was my first close encounter with someone whose art I looked up to. I couldn’t believe he was just out in the crowd. Later Latyrx represented and tore the house down. That was a great night.

It’s been a few moments since my last post. As some of you may know, ripping vinyl is a pain in the ass, so I will only be putting up new rips once a month. My time is limited now that I started school again. I will also be sharing some of my other passion, photography. My lady just bought me a Pentax SLR. So I have been putting it to good use.

Pics coming soon!

hmmmmm…?

So it seems a lot of people were checkin’ for that Stylistics record. Also noticed the hip hop shit doesn’t seem to get alot of love. Either everyone already has those albums, or there are alot of people lookin’ for hot shit to sample. Just a thought

Unbelievable!

Some thoughts….

Well Pakistan’s ex-prime minister, Benazir Bhutto , was killed today. I have mixed feelings about this. Of course no one should be murked like that, or even murked at all…but she was (to my understanding) laundering her country’s money into Swiss accounts. I did like the fact that she was attempting to take her country in a direction away from religious reign, though that is probably what caused her death. How many of you think the current Prime Minister had a hand in this? (I do)

Ron Paul? What seems to be the big hype surrounding this guy? A lot of heads seem to support his views. I checked his website (Google Ron Paul) and read some of his views on issues. A few I agree with, but for the most part I do not. I find some of his beliefs to be hypocritical…wont get into detail…just check it out for yourself…Gun laws, boarder control, and his healthcare plan are all ridiculous..

Healthcare? Sicko…Rent it today. I have never felt so ashamed of our country before. The insurance industry is fucked and needs to be disgarded as soon as possible. We need socialized medicine! Sure taxes will be higher but in the long run it will pay for itself. The first few years will be a huge cluster fuck as well, but once the kinks are worked out the quality of life in the US would be so much better……that is all i will say about that….

RIP

This one goes out to Leroy Booker. The person that had me memorizing “Children’s Story” in the 3rd grade.

I grew up in a city called Harvey on the far-south side of Chicago.  As much as I loved the city when I was a child, the city has turned to shit. My Mom and Dad like to think that it was always shit and that is the reason why we moved. I recently visited Harvey for the first time in maybe 10 years a few months back and I have realized what it was my parents saw in that dump.

Anyways, I have a lot to thank for coming up in such a shithole. It has allowed me to appreciate so many things through out life. Back to the subject at hand

I remember hearing this moving thump coming out of the boxy Chevy Blazers with the back gate open. Seeing these huge speakers pumping was amazing. Something moved inside me.

In the third grade I met Leroy Booker. He used to wear a BDP shirt and Troop sneakers. He wrote down all the lyrics to Slick Ricks “Children’s Story” and gave it to me to remember for homework. He used to give me dubs of his brothers tapes. From that point on I became addicted.

So this goes out to Leroy Booker. Hope all is well with you.
